2021 Virtual Leadership Forum: Make a Difference by Being the Difference

Overall Program Goals:

  • Gain access to specific tools and knowledge to enhance your effectiveness as a leader within your Coordinating Body/Local Networking Group, Community of Interest, and the broader diabetes community.
  • Gain knowledge, strategies and resources to assist you as a volunteer leader to support the future of the diabetes specialty in the year 2021 and beyond

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize ADCES resources provided to support your role as volunteer leader as well as the role specific guidelines of your team members.
  • Learn strategies to develop an action plan for your respective Coordinating Body/Local Networking Group and / or Community to effectively lead your diabetes community through 2021.
  • Gain insight into the approach to informing, engaging, and supporting members and their colleagues to realize the ADCES’ mission, vision & values.
  •  Articulate and demonstrate the value of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists within your healthcare community.

Plan to walk away with:

  • Resources to help you manage your Coordinating Bodies/Local Networking Groups and/or Communities of Interest within your community
  • A full understanding of our enhanced Volunteer Module within ADCES Connect
  • Foundational knowledge and resources to develop your affiliate group’s action plan for 2021.


Title of the program: ADCES Leadership Forum - Organizational Priority Alignment

Program Overview
: The leadership forum is an opportunity for ADCES to connect with their coordinating body (chapter) leaders. This annual event allows ADCES to share organizational level initiatives in diabetes care and education to coordinating bodies for input and dissemination into local groups for maintaining and advancing diabetes care and education programs. This activity will highlight how ADCES is aligning goals for the specialty, following the Vision for the Specialty and Strategic plan, with organizational opportunities to move the profession forward.

Intended Audience:  The ADCES Webinars are activities designed for individual or groups of diabetes educators, including RNs, RDs, Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, MDs, and other health care providers interested in staying up to date on current practices of care for their patients with diabetes and other related conditions.

Successful Completion 

To receive a Statement of Credit you must attend the entire session. Your Statement of Credit will be issued electronically immediately upon submission of the evaluation form. Contact education@aadenet.org in the event you choose not to complete the evaluation form. Pharmacists must provide their date of birth (MMDD) and NABP ePID to receive credit. Pharmacist learners who fail to provide this information will not receive credit for this activity.

In support of improving patient care, the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

American Medical Association (AMA)
Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists designates this live activity for a maximum of 0.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists designates this activity for a maximum of 0.5 ANCC contact hours.

The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 10977, for 0.5 contact hours. RNs must retain this document for 4 years after the activity concludes.

The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 0.5 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR): CDR Credentialed Practitioners will receive 0.5 Continuing Professional Education units (CPEUs) for completion of this activity. Completion of this RD/DTR prefession-specific or IPCE activity awards CPEUs (One IPCE credit = One CPEU). If the activity is dietietics-related but not targeted to RDs or DTRs, CPEUs may be claimed which are commensurate with participation in contact hours (One 60 minute hour = 1 CPEU. RDs and DTRs are to select activity type 102 in their Activity Log. Performance Indicator selection is at the learner’s discretion.

Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists: To satisfy the requirements for renewal of certification for the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE), continuing education activities must be diabetes related and approved by a provider on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers (www.ncbde.org). CBDCE does not approve continuing education. The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists is on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers.

It is the responsibility of each participant to determine if the program meets the criteria for re-licensure or recertification for their discipline.
