Program overview

The American Diabetes Association recently released the 2014 Clinical Practice Recommendations as well as significant updates to the 2013 Nutrition Recommendations.  Join Patti Urbanski, MEd, RD, LD, CDE, to get up to speed on the latest guidelines and recommendations in this informative webinar.

Program purpose

The purpose of this activity is to enable the learner to become more knowledgeable about the 2014 ADA Clinical Practice Recommendations.

Intended audience

The AADE Webinars are knowledge-based activities designed for individual or groups of diabetes educators, including RNs, RDs, Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, MDs, and other health care providers interested in staying up to date on current practices of care for their patients with diabetes and other related conditions.

Program objectives

At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:

·  Discuss two clinical practice recommendations which have changed from the 2013 Standards of Medical Care for Diabetes.

·  Summarize the main points of the 2013 Nutrition Recommendations.

·  Identify two standards which diabetes educators must understand in order to provide accurate, effective diabetes self-management education and support to clients.

Accreditation information: Registered Nurses

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

 

This educational program will provide 1.5 contact hours of continuing education credit.

 

AADE is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CEP # 10977).

 

AADE is an Iowa Board of Nursing approved provider #366. This program provides 0.18 CEUs (1 contact hour = 50 minutes).  This certificate must be retained by the licensee for a period of four years.

Registered Dietitians

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 1.5 of continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program/material. 

Registered Pharmacists

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.  This program provides 1.50 contact hours (0.150 CEU’s) of continuing education credit.

Certified diabetes educators

Certified Diabetes Educators: To satisfy the requirements for renewal of certification for the National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators (NCBDE), continuing education activities must be diabetes related and approved by a provider on the NCBDE list of Approved Providers (www.ncbde.org). NCBDE does not approve continuing education. The American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) is on the NCBDE list of Approved Providers.
