Program Overview

In this webinar, Steve Freed, RPh, will provide an overview of the new diabetes medications, devices, and guidelines that have recently been released as well as those that are currently in the pipeline. Get up to speed on the changes that happened in 2013 and start preparing for what the future may hold for the management of diabetes.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
  • Explain any changes in the 2013 Diabetes Standards
  • Describe the new medications, their purpose, use, side effects, and outcomes thus far
  • Discuss future drug therapies in the pipeline
  • Identify new medical devices and products for diabetes management
  • Identify future medical devices and tools in the pipeline

Intended Audience

The AADE Webinars are knowledge-based activities designed for individual or groups of diabetes educators, including RNs, RDs, Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, MDs, and other health care providers interested in staying up to date on current practices of care for their patients with diabetes and other related conditions.

Registered Nurses

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

This educational program will provide 1.5 contact hours of continuing education credit.

AADE is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CEP # 10977).

AADE is an Iowa Board of Nursing approved provider #366. This program provides 0.18 CEUs (1 contact hour = 50 minutes, or 0.1 CEUs).

Registered Dietitians

The American Association of Diabetes Educators, (AM001) is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 1.5 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program. Continuing Professional Education Provider Accreditation does not constitute endorsement by CDR of a provider, program, or materials.

Registered Pharmacists

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This program provides 1.50 contact hours (0.150 CEUs) of continuing education credit.
