Program Overview

Smartphone users can download a multitude of apps especially for helping people manage their diabetes. How are they being used, and what opportunities are available for people with diabetes? We'll take a look at these questions, and check out the functionality of some notable apps that are available.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Identify benefits of different types of healthcare apps
  • Describe key functions of various smartphone apps for diabetes self-management

Program Purpose

This program provides diabetes educators with knowledge of ways to help patients identify and utilize smartphone apps to help manage their diabetes.

Activity Type:

This is a knowledge-based learning activity. This 90-minute online session includes a presentation followed by a question and answer period.

Intended Audience

The AADE Webinars are knowledge-based activities designed for individual or groups of diabetes educators, including RNs, RDs, Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, MDs, and other health care providers interested in staying up to date on current practices of care for their patients with diabetes and other related conditions.

Registered Nurses

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. This educational program will provide 1.5 contact hours of continuing education credit.

AADE is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CEP # 10977).

AADE is an Iowa Board of Nursing approved provider #366. For the Iowa BON, this program provides 1.8 contact hours or 0.18 CEUs (1 contact hour = 50 minutes).

Registered Dietitians

The American Association of Diabetes Educators, (AM001) is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 1.5 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program. Continuing Professional Education Provider Accreditation does not constitute endorsement by CDR of a provider, program, or materials.

Registered Pharmacists

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This program provides 1.50 contact hours (0.150 CEUs) of continuing education credit.
