Eat Less, Exercise More: Sounds Easy, Why Is It So Hard?

Event Date: February 19, 2014 - February 19, 2014
Event Time: 01:00 PM - 02:30 PM

Program Overview

The "War on Obesity" is having a lot of casualties, and we need to make peace; blaming and shaming is not helpful. We often preach that weight loss is simple: just eat less and exercise more, but we all know that it is much more complicated than that.

In this webinar, you'll learn about the evidence surrounding both environmental and genetic causes of obesity. You'll discover how to assist patients to set appropriate goals (related to behavior rather than weight), then identify and break barriers. Additionally, you will walk away with a strategy for designing a positive support system to assist patients in achieving goals. By using a focus on healthy behavior rather than weight or BMI, the "war on obesity" can end peacefully.

Program Purpose

The purpose of this activity is to enable the learner to understand the genetic as well as environmental factors associated with weight and design a plan to help people improve health using a positive approach (without judgment, blame or shame.)

Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
  • Identify both environmental and genetic causes of obesity
  • Describe how to assist patients to set appropriate goals (related to behavior rather than weight), then identify and break barriers
  • Discuss how to design a positive support system to assist patients in achieving goals
