Program Overview

We will look at ways for you to increase provider referrals to your DSME/S program, including good tips and tricks to getting out the word about your program.

Program Purpose

Diabetes educators who attend this session will be better equipped to increase their program referrals, thereby enhancing their program impact.

Activity Type:

This is a knowledge-based learning activity. This 90-minute online session includes a presentation followed by a question and answer period.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
  • Identify your key customers and how to best reach them
  • Define at least two strategies for building a sustainable referral process for DSME
  • Identify the importance of tracking referral sources

Intended Audience

The AADE Webinars are knowledge-based activities designed for individuals or groups of diabetes educators, including RNs, RDs, Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, MDs, and other health care providers interested in staying up to date on current practices of care for their patients with diabetes and other related conditions.

  1. Identify potential customers and referral sources and discuss the best ways to reach them
  2. The difference between targeted approaches vs. a broad approach and when to use each
  3. How to work with providers to gain referrals and how to incorporate an approach that fits in the workflow of a clinic site
  4. Recently published referral algorithm as a tool for talking with providers
  5. How to use the AADE 7 to discuss the role of DSME with providers
  6. Example of tracking results of marketing strategies
  7. Question and answer session

Registered Nurses

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

This educational program will provide 1.5 contact hours of continuing education credit.

AADE is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CEP # 10977).

AADE is an Iowa Board of Nursing approved provider #366. This program provides 0.18 CEUs (1 contact hour = 50 minutes, or 0.1 CEUs).

Registered Dietitians

The American Association of Diabetes Educators, (AM001) is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 1.5 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program. Continuing Professional Education Provider Accreditation does not constitute endorsement by CDR of a provider, program, or materials.

Registered Pharmacists

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This program provides 1.50 contact hours (0.150 CEUs) of continuing education credit.
