Program Overview
Review the protections afforded to students/children with diabetes in this 90-minute session. Students/children with diabetes spend a significant amount of time in daycare and/or school settings, away from their parents who are their primary caregivers. School personnel must understand diabetes and be able to provide necessary care if needed. Diabetes educators can provide their expertise to bridge the gap between families and schools.
Program Purpose
The purpose of this activity is to give diabetes educators increased knowledge about the protections afforded to students with diabetes as well as ways to help out both families and school personnel

Learning ObjectivesAt the end of this presentation, participants will
be able to:
- Describe the laws that protect students with diabetes
- Explain the different needs of students based on age and/or ability
- List resources available to families as well as diabetes educators
Intended AudienceThe AADE Webinars are knowledge-based
activities designed for individual or groups of diabetes educators, including
RNs, RDs, Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists,
Physician Assistants, MDs, and other health care providers interested in staying
up to date on current practices of care for their patients with diabetes and
other related conditions.

Registered Nurses
The American
Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited as a provider of continuing
nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on
Accreditation.
This educational program will provide 1.5 contact hours
of continuing education credit.
AADE is accredited as a provider of
continuing nursing education by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CEP
# 10977).
AADE is an Iowa Board of Nursing approved
provider #366. This program provides 0.18 CEUs (1 contact hour = 50 minutes, or 0.1 CEUs).

Association of Diabetes Educators, (AM001) is a Continuing Professional
Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration
(CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs)
will receive 1.5 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion
