Program Overview

Get an understanding of the herbal supplements that diabetes patients are using, and where to go for reputable sources of information about them.

Program Purpose

The purpose of this activity is to share scientifically based studies that explore the relationship between common herbal and dietary supplements and type 2 diabetes.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the frequency of herbal and supplement use in people with type 2 diabetes
  • Identify the impact of 12 common herbal supplements used in people with type 2 diabetes
  • Identify resources to access scientifically based research on complementary medicine

Intended Audience

The AADE Webinars are knowledge-based activities designed for individual or groups of diabetes educators, including RNs, RDs, Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, MDs, and other health care providers interested in staying up to date on current practices of care for their patients with diabetes and other related conditions.

Registered Nurses

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

This educational program will provide 1.5 contact hours of continuing education credit.

AADE is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CEP # 10977).

AADE is an Iowa Board of Nursing approved provider #366. This program provides 0.18 CEUs (1 contact hour = 50 minutes, or 0.1 CEUs).

Registered Dietitians

The American Association of Diabetes Educators, (AM001) is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 1.5 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program. Continuing Professional Education Provider Accreditation does not constitute endorsement by CDR of a provider, program, or materials.

Registered Pharmacists

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This program provides 1.50 contact hours (0.150 CEUs) of continuing education credit.
