Program Overview

Obesitycontinues to reach epidemic levels, with over one third of U.S. adultsobese.  As a diabetes educator, you arein a unique position to bring about change by encouraging the individuals youwork with to make healthier choices and educating them on available treatmentoptions.  AADE is pleased to offer a 4-partwebinar series designed to equip you with the knowledge you need to addresshealthy eating, physical activity, medications, and surgical options with yourpatients.  The first webinar in thisseries focuses on the role of healthy eating in preventing and treatingobesity. 

Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation, the participant willbe able to:

  • Define healthy eating as an AADE7 Self-Care Behavior and as defined by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2010.
  • Detail the current research evidence related to the role of healthy eating in diabetes management and education.
  • Articulate the range of key healthy eating messages to be given to people with diabetes by health professionals based  on individual goals.

Intended Audience

The AADE Webinars are knowledge-based activities designed for individual or groups of diabetes educators, including RNs, RDs, Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, MDs, and other health care providers interested in staying up to date on current practices of care for their patients with diabetes and other related conditions.

Registered Nurses

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

This educational program will provide 1.5 contact hours of continuing education credit.

AADE is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CEP # 10977).

AADE is an Iowa Board of Nursing approved provider #366. This program provides 0.18 CEUs (1 contact hour = 50 minutes, or 0.1 CEUs).

Registered Dietitians

The American Association of Diabetes Educators, (AM001) is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 1.5 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program. Continuing Professional Education Provider Accreditation does not constitute endorsement by CDR of a provider, program, or materials.

Registered Pharmacists

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited bythe Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuingpharmacy education.  This programprovides 1.50 contact hours (0.150 CEU’s) of continuing education credit.
