Introduction to Diabetes Education is a package of learning consisting of five separate online courses:

-- Clinical Aspects of Diabetes Education  
-- AADE7 Self-Care Behaviors: Healthy Eating
-- AADE7 Self-Care Behaviors: Being Active
-- AADE7 Self-Care Behaviors: Taking Medication
-- Teaching and Learning in Diabetes Education

Each course is self-paced, and focuses on the essential knowledge and skills needed by non-diabetes educator clinicians who want to enhance their ability to work with people with diabetes. Nurses, dietitians, and pharmacists should consider this interactive course series as one of the first steps towards becoming a diabetes educator.

Available in an easily accessible online format, each self-paced course includes:

• Video vignettes presenting a clinical situation relevant to each module
• Detailed multimedia lecture presentations
• Interactive exercises to reinforce learning
• Virtual case-study discussions to illustrate the contributions of each member of the multidisciplinary team
• Additional resources for continued learning 
• Printable job aids

Continuing Education Credit

This educational course series will provide a total of 11 contact hours of continuing education credit.

Accreditation Information for "Clinical Aspects of Diabetes Education"

Registered Nurses

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. This program provides 6.0 contact hours of continuing education credit.

AADE is also accredited by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CEP # 10977).

Registered Dietitians

The American Association of Diabetes Educators (AM001) is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). CDR Credentialed Practitioners will receive 6.0 Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEUs) for completion of this activity/material. Continuing Professional Education Provider Accreditation does not constitute endorsement by CDR of a provider, program, or materials.

Registered Pharmacists

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This program provides 6.0 contact hours (0.60 CEUs) of continuing education credit.

Certified Diabetes Educators

To satisfy the requirements for renewal of certification for the National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators (NCBDE), continuing education activities must be diabetes related and approved by a provider on the NCBDE list of Approved Providers (www.ncbde.org). NCBDE does not approve continuing education. The American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) is on the NCBDE list of Approved Providers.

Board Certified Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM)

AADE is the administering body for the Advanced Diabetes Management credentials. Continuing education programs offered by AADE can be used toward fulfilling BC-ADM Certification and recertification requirements.
