Description
Insulin has been used for nearly 100 years, longer than any other diabetes medication therapy. It is estimated that approximately 30% of people with diabetes take insulin. All people with type 1 diabetes need insulin, and the number of people with type 2 diabetes that use insulin varies. Over the past century, the types of insulin and the recommendations for treatment have changed dramatically. This session will focus on the basics of insulin therapy, including a review of normal insulin physiology, available and future insulin products, barriers and considerations when selecting insulin as monotherapy or combination therapy, and medication taking for optimal person-centered diabetes care.

Certified Diabetes Care and Education
Specialists
To satisfy the requirements for renewal
of certification for the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education
(CBDCE), continuing education activities must be diabetes related and approved
by a provider on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers (www.cbdce.org).
CBDCE does not approve continuing education. The Association of Diabetes Care
& Education Specialists is on the CBDCE list of Approved
Providers.
Board Certified Advanced Diabetes
Management (BC-ADM)
ADCES is the administering body for the
Advanced Diabetes Management credentials. Continuing education programs offered
by ADCES can be used toward fulfilling BC-ADM Certification and recertification
requirements.
Other Health Professionals
It is the responsibility of each
participant to determine if the program meets the criteria for re-licensure or
recertification for their discipline.
