Description

Individualizing Type 2 Diabetes Treatments with GLP-1 RA CVOT Outcomes Data

90-minute Webinar Recording
Effective dates for CE credit: 12/7/2017 – 12/7/2019

Program Overview

There is a prevalence of new non-insulin therapies on market to treat cardiovascular disease (CVD), especially emerging GLP-1 Receptor Agonists and other cardiovascular outcomes trials (CVOTs). Outcomes of these therapies are correlated, in most cases, with improved cardiovascular function. Diabetes educators play a unique role in individualizing treatment plans for people with diabetes. Educators are trained to assess the behavior of and environmental impacts on patients and translate treatment plans to patient needs. This 90-minute webinar addresses the needs for educators, as diabetes care providers, to learn how to translate and individualize these new treatments.

The goal of this webinar is to provide participants with an understanding of the importance of improving cardiovascular (CV) outcomes in diabetes management, and how recently reported CVOTs data related to type 2 diabetes therapies impact current and future clinical practice. Educators will learn to apply 2017 ADA T2D treatment algorithms in light of CVOTs data and incorporate findings into individualized treatment for meeting A1C goals and minimizing CV risk. The program will focus on emerging GLP-1 receptor agonists and the outcomes of completed CVOTs: LEADER, ELIXA, SUSTAIN-6. Outcomes from DPP-4 and SGLT-2 CVOT outcomes will also be presented.

This webinar is supported by an unrestricted educational grant provided by Novo Nordisk.

Learning Outcome

Learners will be able to understand the importance of improving cardiovascular (CV) outcomes in diabetes management, and how recently reported cardiovascular outcomes trials (CVOTs) data related to type 2 diabetes (T2D) therapies impact current and future clinical practice.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:

-- Identify the link between diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and risk
-- Recognize the rationale for cardiovascular outcomes trials in patients with T2D
-- Compare cardiovascular outcomes clinical data among older and modern classes of anti-hyperglycemic agents
-- Differentiate GLP-1 RAs within class and from other treatment options
-- Assess effect of cardiovascular outcomes data on modern T2D practice

Sponsorship

This webinar is supported by an unrestricted educational grant provided by Novo Nordisk.
