Program Overview

Life with diabetes as a teen and young adult can be complicated. On top of the demands of managing diabetes, teenage life comes with its own set of challenges. Overshadowed by hormones, expectations, and the media, high school and college life revolves around making friends, fitting in, and trying new things, sometimes to a fault. With the goal of offering diabetes specialists insights into managing diabetes through the teen years, two young adults with type 1 diabetes share their experiences and advice.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:

-- Explain the physical, psychological, and social challenges surrounding diabetes management and sex, drugs, and partying
-- Employ a level of comfort when discussing diabetes management and sex, drugs and partying
-- Apply effective strategies when educating teens on diabetes management and sex, drugs, and partying

To satisfy the requirements for renewal of certification for the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE), continuing education activities must be diabetes related and approved by a provider on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers (www.cbdce.org). CBDCE does not approve continuing education. The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists is on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers.

Board Certified Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM)

ADCES is the administering body for the Advanced Diabetes Management credentials. Continuing education programs offered by ADCES can be used toward fulfilling BC-ADM Certification and recertification requirements.
