Reading and post-test for Chapter 7, Monitoring in The Art & Science of Diabetes Self-Management Education Desk Reference,4th Edition.  One post-test per person.  Post-tests many not be shared.  The post-test must be ordered in the name of the individual who wishes to earn the CE.  Upon purchase a pdf of the chapter and the post-test will be uploaded into the learning portal of that individual.

Program Overview and Purpose

This activity addresses the challenges and opportunities for diabetes educators and DSMES programs in an evolving healthcare field.

  •  Identify the monitoring for which healthcare professionals are responsible.
  • Identify the self-monitoring that people with diabetes should can perform.  
  • Explain how to select and use a glucose meter.
  • Identify barriers and possible solutions to SMBG.  
 
Intended Audience This knowledge-based activity is designed for individual diabetes educators, including RNs, RDs, Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, MDs, and other health care providers interested in staying up to date on current practices of care for their patients with diabetes and other related conditions.

Accreditation Information

Registered Nurses

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

This educational program will provide 1.5 contact hours of continuing education credit.

AADE is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CEP # 10977). 

Registered Dietitians

The American Association of Diabetes Educators, (AM001) is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 1.5 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program. Continuing Professional Education Provider Accreditation does not constitute endorsement by CDR of a provider, program, or materials. 

Registered Pharmacists

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.  This program provides 1.50 contact hours (0.150 CEU’s) of continuing education credit.

Certified Diabetes Educators: To satisfy the requirements for renewal of certification for the National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators (NCBDE), continuing education activities must be diabetes related and approved by a provider on the NCBDE list of Approved Providers (www.ncbde.org). NCBDE does not approve continuing education. The American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) is on the NCBDE list of Approved Providers.
