Program Overview

Authorization of the Affordable Care Act created new opportunities, such as the Medicare Annual Wellness Visits for diabetes specialists (may be done by RDs and RDNs) to demonstrate their value add in primary care and evolving health care delivery models. In this encounter health maintenance topics unrelated to emergent medical issues can be reviewed annually. Learn to utilize these encounters to grow your referrals for DPP and DSMES services.

At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:

-- Recognize the value of the Medicare Annual Wellness Visit to individuals and providers
-- Identify the required components of the Annual Wellness Visit and the billing process for this visit type
-- Discuss the role of, and opportunity for, diabetes educators in providing this service

To satisfy the requirements for renewal of certification for the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE), continuing education activities must be diabetes related and approved by a provider on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers (www.CBDCE.org). CBDCE does not approve continuing education. The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (ADCES) is on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers.

Board Certified Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM)

ADCES is the administering body for the Advanced Diabetes Management credentials. Continuing education programs offered by ADCES can be used toward fulfilling BC-ADM Certification and recertification requirements.
